I am the encircling wolves, advancing with ghastly pace
Hungry for flesh and blood, in each gleaming face
In the hideous darkest night, I flashed like a bolt of light
Peasants shivers and fears, displayed to every witness
Around the blest spot, I see a radiant glow
Now it is time to fade and vanish below the freezing moon
In the eyes, fades the light and dies the raging blast
The hour of dread it is and the reigning horror will last
So wonder of fear are stilled in its deepest sleep
As through the breaking clouds the moon rays peep
Fear this is not a fairytale, but a blend of truth and dream like air exhaled

No fate would babble the wolf wracked night
When wild eerie ways afford the sight
Rise the dawn’s bright radiance bated
A eventful scene so late in terror swathed

I found new pleasures in the gruesome spot
While chattering churls sought the ruined cot
Over roads and meads I felt the new dript wound
Till I lost myself amidst the swampy ground
Always unappeased with the flesh consumed
For what the sand takes is never returned
Yet strangely mutters are heard over the mystery
In the dark with my insanity

My wild eyes were glowed with some unusual sight
Hunters were lurkering in the river bank at night
Men and hunting hounds, who mourned with piteous woes
I howled by the quicksand swamp
Then their grief and fears were mounting like a cancer
